COMPANY HISTORY
Boleng was started in 2016 by a collective of built environment professionals working primarily in the retail fuels industry. The founders came from a design and project management background, with a strong grounding in the fundamentals of equipment supply and manufacture.
The company was created to meet the unfulfilled need for expert black-led and staffed built environment specialists in the Oil industry, but soon diversified its interests into a far wider array of projects.
Today, Boleng routinely delivers infrastructure worth hundreds of millions of Rands on an annual basis, across a vast geographical footprint. Boleng has the capability to deliver projects anywhere in the world.

TRANS-FORMATION, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Our goal is to showcase black talent through nurturing homegrown design and engineering, procurement and contract management excellence.
Boleng is a Level 1 Broad-based Black Employment Equity contributor. The firm is 67% African Owned and 30% African Woman-Owned. Our commitment is to reach Level 1 by 2021.
Diversity and inclusion are critical elements of every human resource strategy. Hence, we are a representative workplace, across ethnic background, identification, and sexual orientation, including the provision of opportunities to people with disabilities.
Our permanent staff is more than 80% African, while approximately 40% of our staff is African Women. We are committed to the development and retention of Black design, engineering procurement and contract management talent.
A critical facet of realising our vision lies in providing meaningful opportunities for Black Women engineers in an industry that has traditionally proven to be a hostile environment.
We do that through two models. Firstly, through attracting promising candidates with high potential, and then supporting them with a very practical mentorship approach and supplementary in their continued professional development. Secondly, by fostering a mental model of equity, respect and integrity amongst all our stakeholders and partners, to progress the behaviours in our industry. Together with our clients and all stakeholders, we embrace the One Team and One Touch approach to ensure that project delivery is optimally implemented to enable lasting impact.
Success in today’s engineering and built environment arena is predicated on the upliftment of the people and communities amongst whom we work. That means providing the opportunities and support for entrepreneurs and start-ups to take the next step. It’s not simply about giving that first helping hand; it’s also about staying engaged and committed to helping build sustained success.
We provide our clients with enterprise development opportunities in support of newly initiated contracts, with supporting Supplier Development continuing year-on-year within existing contracts.
Enterprise development and supplier development are both central to our ethos and ways of working. The benefits of these initiatives are included in all contracts (and reported on) at no additional cost to the client.

Case Study 2: Moitedi (Woman of the Year)
Where clients opt to cede full procurement discretion, our goal is always to maximise transformation of the supply chain, whilst assuring budget, quality and delivery timeliness. We are able to do this through the continuous development and nurturing of both long-standing and start-up/transformation suppliers.
Where clients have preferred suppliers or governing framework agreements (particularly global clients), we co-ordinate and integrate with those suppliers and provide guidance and/or opportunities to use transformed contractors further along the chain.
While we deliver most design consultancy services in-house, we do ensure a minimum 50/50 split for the procurement of external/specialist consultancy services (with a strong focus on BO/BWO consultant development) where these are required.
Boleng is committed to meaningful corporate social investment initiatives within all markets in which we operate. We follow ISO26000 guidelines in terms of any engagements that are undertaken.
